Often seen riding beautiful, powerful horses throughout Central Indiana, the IMPD Mounted Patrol is an iconic and effective unit within the force. From crowd control at large events to patrolling city parks and neighborhoods, the IMPD Mounted Patrol provides a unique set of advantages like greater visibility in crowds, easier navigation on uneven terrain, and improved community engagement.
The CIPF is proud to support the IMPD Mounted Patrol’s mission to enhance public safety and foster positive community relations. Through generous donations and partnerships provided by the local community, CIPF provides important resources that help maintain and advance the Mounted Patrol’s capabilities.
In 2025, the Mounted Unit moved to their new home. The CIPF helped fund the brand-new barn which is the first home that is permanent for this unit. This new 20,000-square-foot facility is more than just a barn; it is a world-class center for the IMPD Mounted Patrol. It houses 13 spacious stables, dedicated riding arenas (inside and outside), and functional office space. There are now multiple pastures with plenty of room for the horses to graze and play when off duty.
The Central Indiana Police Foundation offers multiple ways to support the IMPD Mounted Patrol. From buying a brick (click here for details) or making a direct financial contribution, you can help ensure these beautiful horses and their police partners have the resources they need to excel.
The Mounted Patrol is a valuable asset to the IMPD, and supporting the Central Indiana Police Foundation can help provide them with the resources they need to continue their vital work. Help us keep the Mounted Patrol Unit an integral part of the IMPD force and Indianapolis community for many years to come!
