Invest in Blue: Supporting Critical Drone Operations for Marion County Sheriff’s Office

The Central Indiana Police Foundation is proud to support the Marion County Sheriff’s Office through a recent Invest in Blue grant—providing essential equipment to strengthen their drone operations and overall readiness.

While drones have become an increasingly valuable tool in modern law enforcement, their effectiveness depends on having the right supporting resources. For the Sheriff’s Office, that need came down to something simple—but critical: reliable batteries.

Powering Mission-Ready Technology

The Marion County Sheriff’s Office currently operates multiple drones used to support critical tactical and public safety missions, including search efforts, situational awareness, and coordinated responses. However, several of their existing batteries were no longer serviceable, limiting their ability to deploy drones effectively when needed.

Through this grant, CIPF funded the purchase of additional battery sets, ensuring each drone can maintain the recommended number of batteries for consistent, uninterrupted operation. This upgrade helps guarantee that the unit is ready to respond at a moment’s notice—without delays caused by limited power supply.

A Small Investment with Big Impact

While this request may seem modest, its impact is significant. Having enough functional batteries means:

1. Increased operational readiness for time-sensitive situations

2. Extended flight time during critical incidents

3. Improved safety and efficiency for officers in the field

4. Greater reliability for tactical and support missions
