Some experiences are unforgettable because of where they take you. Others are unforgettable because of the people you meet.
At the 2025 Breakfast with a Cop, guests had the opportunity to bid on a one-of-a-kind experience: a behind-the-scenes look at how law enforcement helps keep one of the world’s largest sporting events safe—the Indianapolis 500.
Long before the green flag waves, the day begins. The winning bidders, Lonnie Hinkle and Dewayne Holt , met officers around 5:00 a.m., getting a true “behind-the-scenes” experience that few people ever see. Throughout the day, they rode alongside officers, helped deliver food and water to personnel stationed around the track, assisted with transportation, visited the Pagoda, spent time with safety crews in Turn 3, and witnessed firsthand the enormous coordination required to protect hundreds of thousands of race fans.
More than just a tour, it was an opportunity to experience the teamwork, professionalism, and dedication that define law enforcement during one of Indiana’s biggest events.
Following the experience, attendee Lonnie Hinkle shared what the day meant to him:
“From the moment that cannon fired at dawn to the final post-race ride back to the truck, the entire team made us feel like part of something much bigger.”
Seeing the planning and precision behind race day gave participants a new perspective on the work officers do, much of which happens quietly behind the scenes.
“Seeing the meticulous care and effort put into protecting the Speedway and every fan was eye-opening, humbling, and unforgettable.”
The experience wasn’t just about seeing restricted areas or riding with officers—it was about building relationships. Sharing breakfast, conversations, and the day’s responsibilities alongside the officers created lasting connections and a deeper appreciation for those who serve.
