On August 3, 2021, Central Indiana Police Foundation attended Avon Police Department’s National Night Out Against Crime event in Avon. CIPF was approached by Deputy Chief Brian Nugent to partner with them for a new program called AWARE. This program was created to help aid persons with disabilities in their interactions with law enforcement. The AWARE sticker is a visual aid that alerts law enforcement that a person in the vehicle or residence may have auditory processing difficulties making it difficult for them to obey or understand instructions from officers. It is a tool that will be utilized to help keep everyone safe. CIPF attended the National Night Out event to help promote the Avon Police Department’s AWARE program. More information about AWARE and how to apply for a sticker will be available through the Avon Police Department and questions about it should be directed to them.
